Well, that is what the goal is! :-) You still get some of the very perfunctory responses from some kids. Others continue to insist that everything is "fine" even though parents and others may tell you otherwise. As we indicate in the article, several researchers have reported that book based activities like the ones we discuss, do, on average, generally increase the extent to which children participate in discussions about feelings and attitudes. But group averages are comprised of a range of values (including, for example, some children who don't say much of anything during the book-based activities).
