Hi Natalie, As you point out, there are many possible uses for books and other similar resources. Based on research I've read, it's unlikely that peers are going to have large scale changes in how their attitudes toward a person who stutter by virtue of reading a single book. Such educational activities in combination with actual positive interactions with someone who stutters may have the most impact.
