I am seeing a neurogenic stutterer who, upon becoming concious (post car acc.) and beginning to talk with a very high amount of dysfluencies, really thought he'd always stuttered. His family and his history were his proof (not his memory!)that this was a new behavior! Now 3 yrs later, he is reacting increasingly to others' reactions and developing new behaviors to alter, hide, change, etc his speech. Are you saying that 'now' he is a stutterer but before he was not? (do you mean the struggle behaviors = stutter?) Also, I saw a young man who came to me "for stuttering" and ,to me,had the most awesome attitudes. I learned that he had been raised and had lived in a small town next to a community in which being dysfluent is, he said, much like having BROWN eyes, not blue ones. However, he'd moved to Tampa and was getting quite different reactions, to which he was reacting. I've not seen him since and don't know what he did next..... just a thought to add.
