Interesting points. MY TBI patient had no hx of stuttering until the TBI. She ran a hair salon. So, she was not a stutterer UNTIL she began to attach cognitions to her speech impediment, began avoiding, withdrawing etc. This case and similar ones- although not the typical development of stuttering- reveal critical cognitive and affective phenomenon that may lock a grade school child into a life of stuttering. On my site (stuttering-specialist.com) I have an article called "Kudzu and stuttering" that articulates this creeping vine of the stutterer identity.
