Good questions. First, the pws has to have the ego strength to advocate for himself: verbal responses to teasing, acknowledging "I stutter," and the ability to reframe events that could be emotionally traumatic. Second, is advocacy in schools, media, and everywhere else. I hope this upcoming movie The King's Speech portrays stuttering better than humiliating moives such as A Fish Called Wanda. Stuttering has seemed to be a behavior that belittling is socially appropriate. All the non-profit groups are helping. We need more really big events like walks and 10K, etc. I love seeing autism and breast cancer organized for their causes. We can learn from them.
