Tim, looks like that URL for that study I cited has to be copied and pasted to the browser in order to work. I think it's crucial to recognize that people who stutter don't come in cookie-cutter patterns. In other words, not all PWS are created equal — there's different environmental factors, different learning experiences and different degrees of neurological deficit. While inspirational stories might help those with a very moderate problem to begin with and high degree of suggestibility, most others face a much more difficult situation. They need comprehensive treatment which unfortunately is still next to non-existent. While cognitive behavioural training has a place in the arsenal, much more is required for any outcome with lasting efficacy, a very rare commodity indeed in the treatment of stuttering. That's why I'd like you to comment on the main point in my original posting here: "Genuine desensitization would see SLPs working together with clinical psychologists with expertise in systematic real-world desensitization." What's wrong — or right — with this idea, Tim? — edfeuer@mts.net
