A negative thought that you try to cast away is like a boomerang- it will come back and smack you. The reason you FEEL bad is the THOUGHT is loaded with meaning (i.e., shame). Reframing the event changes the meaning and when meaning is gone the even if officially neutralized and will not return to haunt you. I explain that somatic memory means you can feel the memory in your soma. When reframing in thorough you cannot feel the memory. That is reliable confirmation. I find relapse occurs when a pws has an event that he really lets bother him. He replays the movie over and over, dwells on the stutter, starts increasing anxiety, worrying about it coming back and so on. So, a stuttering event or group of events in punctuated with meaning and relapse is coming. This explains how I used to relapse and no longer do....and will not.
