Hi Jim, Those who are interested in following my example (of addressing community organisations in an attempt to increase public awareness about stuttering) might wish to seek the support of other PWS when considering such challenges. It is to my knowledge that members of the Philadelphia NSA Chapter visit both Temple University and La Salle University, annually, (as a group) to share their experiences with SLP students. Similarly, several Chapter members might think about giving a collective presentation to selected external audiences (rather than undertaking that task on their own). They would, undoubtedly, gain confidence and strength in numbers. It has certainly been my experience that members of the public are genuinely interested in hearing about stuttering. Their feedback (either directly, or via reports in local newspapers) is ALWAYS positive. Indeed, I am frequently invited back to speak to about non-stuttering topics. As I travel around fulfilling my engagements, I often see familiar faces in the audience (at different venues). I’ve discovered that some people (who have absolutely no connection with stuttering) have returned to hear the same talk (about stuttering) on 3 or 4 occasions. :-) Kindest regards Alan
