It is shocking to me how many people know little about stuttering, unless they know someone or work in the field related to it. I also am baffled by the media not wanting to cover the topic of stuttering, as you mentioned, since it is infrequently addressed and contains some serious issues regarding bullying and the unknown etiology and cure. Wouldn’t this be something that people in the media would want to report and make known? I am a speech-language pathology graduate student and in my fluency class, we were shown clips of how people who stutter are displayed as being incompetent. Does this have to do with the media’s lack on knowledge on stuttering or more so on how our society negatively views people who stutter? Great information and insights regarding the media and stuttering! Thank you, Jim!
