Interesting topic, Grant. I have thought about this myself on times. I personally consider myself to be a person with a disability(pwd). I like "person with a disability" better than "disabled" since the latter more accurately reflects the fact that I have lots of abilities. I consider stuttering a disability because, quite simply, I do not have the ability to speak fluently. Pretty straightforward in my book. I do agree with personal choice in this regard but would hope that more pws embrace the pwd label. I do think some shy away from it because of the negative stereotypes that go along with "disabled or disability". But, if we don't feel like we can be part of the wider disability gang, then it's kind of hard to expect fluent folks to sympathize with our challenges or to comfortably mix/interact with us(pws). There's no shame in having a disability. It's what we do with our abilities that matters:) K
