Hello and thanks for your response Stephanie. I can also directly relate to what feelings and conflict your friend has had about the word “disability”. In my studies it seems to be a real sticking point itself with all the false and negative connotations connected to it. Some PWS simply refuse to ask for help purely based on the word. Disability should never be viewed in a negative sense and I think it is up to us to try to change how general society views it and also how media presents it. The sense of self pride in not connecting to the word is also a huge issue with some PWS choosing to somewhat suffer in silence in order to save face. Help is there if they ask for it but that single word seems to be a huge barrier.
