Hello Caitlin, Great question. I honestly do not have much of an idea cross-culturally about how disability is viewed. I think some cultures would view it differently. We can tell at least from a previous post that India does not seem to recognise stuttering as a disability. I do know that some countries at least have many more provisions and allowances for people who stutter. I can tell you an interesting story from my own teaching experience. I teach with a very obvious stutter and I teach many students who are not from Australia. For some reason most of my Chinese students seem to disregard my stuttering completely and focus intently on the course content. Yet students from European backgrounds seem to notice it a lot more. Just a quirky little story for you.
