First, thanks for contributing this thought-provoking article, Grant. Very nicely done. And the issues of preschoolers and disability is an interesting question. I just wanted to add that there has been a little bit of research done in the USA on the effects of speech disorders on preschoolers' socialization. In one study, it was found that preschoolers with speech impairments were viewed less positively by their peers (i.e., they were chosen less often by their peers to participate in a cooperative classroom activity and received less favorable peer ratings overall). So in that sense, there are perhaps participation restrictions, in this case environmentally based, from a very early age for some children.
