Hello Latasha, Great post. I agree that the challenge is trying to shape societies view of “disability” and thus making it more acceptable to accept. I think it will at first take an individual belief change to kick off the whole rolling ball. I think society in general needs to be educated, starting in schools, about truly what disability means and how we apply to it. This would have to be lead by government and support groups in a consolidated fashion. Disability should be viewed positively as a term of embracement and not discrimination. I think if people in general could apply the “disability” to a common and clearly understood definition then it would be embraced and understood a whole lot more. I also think that media must play a strong part in this push and help to portray it more intelligently and balanced. Affected parties of course must be onboard and very proactive to help alter mainstream opinion and portrayal. Not an easy challenge but never the less a challenge indeed.
