This article really got me thinking about disability and the meanings that I created in my head for the term. When I started reading your article I thought it was crazy to think of stuttering as a disability. Your reasoning and research influenced my outlook, and I hope it can do the same for others with disabilities and people who stutter. I can also see why people who stutter stay away from the term. It seems counterintuitive, because as a graduate student in speech-language pathology we are told that we want to build self-esteem, calling it a disability would appear to be doing the opposite because of the social stigma placed on it. How do you think it would be best to go about talking to a person who stutters about this? They may be completely against it, but they could receive help from a university that they may possibly need. I want to do be able to all that I can for a client, so I am interested to see how your studies turn out. Thank you for your time and your article.
