Hello Colleen, I think you have hit one of the problematic nails on the head with your first statement – “never thought of stuttering as a disability.” I also doubt that a majority of society also align stuttering with disability and this is an issue that must be addressed. How can stuttering ever be taken seriously if we (PWS) and the a majority of society does not? I think many people yes do shy away from the label because of the negative baggage they perceive begin associated with it.
