Allison, thanks for the great comemnts. I will respond to one and answer your other question. (Hopefully Christine can jump in here too!). It should not be surprising that Lisa had never met another pws in person. She has been covert, like I was for most of my life. When you stuttr and try to hide it, it can be a very isolating experience. It is not uncommon for women especially, who are a minority within a minority, to have never met another stutterer. I did not myself until 4 years ago, and I am in my 40's. Also, when I have gone to support meetings for pws, there have been times when I have been the only woman among 15 men. . . . As for your other question, I have never met not heard of a female executive in a position of power in a company or organization. Now, thats not to say there is not women who stutter in a powerful position who is covert and hides her stuttering. I work as a career counselor in a high school, which is a pretty visible position. As an aspiring clinician, it is important that you know about the very real issue of covert stuttering and how it impacts lives! ~Pam
