Hi Olicia - well, I am not a speech professional, but I guess my take is that women who stutter need the same kind of support that men do. But sliggtly different, in that since we are largely outnumbered in support meetings, I think women need to be encouraged and invited to share. A few times I have been the sole woman in a support group meeting of 15. It can feel really intimidating. Sometimes I felt the guys dismissed my ideas or opinions as invalid. Now, that might not be true at all, but its what I felt. So, recognizing that women indeed are fewer in number and may feel uncomfortable in a male-dominated group, I would say that the support environment, whatever it may be, feel good, inviting and nonjudgemental. This podcast creates a space whenre women can freely say whats onthier minds, without time constraints, without judgement, without feeling any need to censor anything. Just havingthat opportuity, and knowing that what we share may empower someone else, to me is huge.
