Hi Maribel, thank-you for your comments and for your question. I absolutely agree with you, it is very important to increase stuttering awareness, not only in Latin America but also here within the Latino community living in the United States. There are many aspects that I would want to get across about stuttering! But if I could only get across one thing, I would choose to focus on the myths on why people stutter and then inform them about what stuttering really is. I have learned through the media, and by talking to people, that there is the belief that people stutter because they are shy, nervous, or they simply want to talk too fast (just to name a few). I would say that it is a belief not only seen in the Latino community, but worldwide. By informing people about what stuttering really is, I think that there would be more understanding and respect towards those who stutter. We definitely have a lot of work to do!
