The most important outcome of Jef's therapy is the fact that he succeeded in excelling himself on other levels. Thanks to the encouragement of his therapist, he was able to discover and fulfill a dream. His fluency is not perfect. Jef is perfectly able to speak without stammering but the effort he has to make to actually do so, is quite big for him. It may sound a bit contrary but in the end it is changing a way of speaking you are confortable in, you grew up with. Before therapy he never knew there could be another way of pronouncing his words. Although his stammering causes him a lot of problems, it is a habit you are trying to change. And that is not easy at all. On top of that, there are of course his problems concentrating and so on. So yes, I think he is relieved knowing he is able to change it, but the effort he has to make is sometimes too hard. But aren't we all afraid of change? The question about what Jef would choose, autism or stammering, is one I can't answer for him. Logically thinking I would go for getting rid of the autism. Because he knows something can be done about his stammering. His autism will always be there...
