Hi Joke, I was moved by your article and by the accompanying trailer. It must have taken immense courage for Jef to agree to reveal his ‘secret’ to the world at large. It also took considerable personal dedication (and love for your brother) for you to devote so many years in the making the documentary. I totally agree with your opinion that stuttering/stammering is such a misunderstood subject. People simply have no idea how it can impact upon someone’s life. It some instances, even members of our own family have little knowledge about the difficulties that we experience. I feel that the lives of many persons who stammer could be significantly improved if more of us were prepared to speak publicly about the matter. It really is to our mutual advantage. However, I fully appreciate that the very nature of stuttering/stammering is such that those affected by it may well feel reluctant, or unable, to discuss it with others. Greater openness about my life-long difficulties has proved invaluable in helping me to overcome previous embarrassment and aid the desensitization process. I wish Jef every success in his quest to come to terms with his communication challenges. May he go from strength to strength. I also hope that you receive recognition for your efforts to create a greater public awareness about stammering. Gert Reunes also deserves a mention for the assistance he is providing. Kindest regards Alan
