Pam, I just wrote a long response back to you however I don't know if it went through or not. I wanted to say thank you for sharing your story with me. As you know, chronic sorrow is very challenging for parents to deal with and has tremendous effects on the children (that is us). However there is good news, we CAN open up to our parents. Even if we just bring up "stuttering" to them, it may open that door a little bit. Every little opening provides light from behind the door to shine. Small steps... There was part of my story I didn't go into in the article, it was about my father. He passes away in April, rather suddenly I might add, and we never talked about stuttering with the exception of that one Christmas day. However the last time I did see him alive, he was stuttering more than I had ever seen him and remarked twice (in anger) "Damn Stuttering". From those words I finally was able to listen to my father and observe the pain he's been hold on to for so many years. It is amazing what we can find out about our parents and people if we are "open" enough to listen (with our eyes, ears, and heart for compassion without judgment). Thanks again Pam. Have a wonderful day. Scott
