Dr. Palasik - Great paper and you discussed in this paper a topic that needs more attention. Also the way you explained the topic of "chronic sorrow" was well written and easy to understand (although heartbreaking to read about how some parents have this cycle). Have you thought of having some time dedicated during a few designated session/sessions to have parents come in and learn more about stuttering (i.e. give out and explain literature re. possible genetic components for stuttering, for example), and have a time for the clients to discuss their stuttering and feelings with their parents? Do you think a few sessions which focus on this with the client and their parent(s) would help to alleviate the negative feelings/ chronic sorrow cycle that occurs with some parents? If you brought a parent in, would you start bringing a parent in to a session when the clients were older (in early their teens) or when they were younger (elementary age) to help alleviate and change the course of potential chronic sorrow in parents? Again - thank you for this excellent eye opening paper.
