Jackie, HI! Thank you so much for writing. If you would permit me to ask a few questions, I like to get to know people as I talk with them. Where are you from? What experiences have you had with stuttering (parents, clients, being a person who stutters yourself, friends who stutter, family members, etc)? You bring up some truly wonderful points about education and thank you for bringing them up. The NSA and the FRIENDS programs are two great stuttering support organizations across the country that do nothing but promote stuttering in such a positive way for people of ALL ages. The challenge to providing stuttering education is reaching everyone. What we (as people who know about stuttering) can do is educate people around us (our friends, fellow parents, our kids, family) about stuttering in hopes that they will pass it forward. We can also direct people to the NSA and FRIENDS organizations to better educate them...Education is key, you are exactly right!!!! As for my family and your questions about things have being different if I was "willing" to talk with them about my stuttering....I believe thing my parents' chronic sorrow and their thoughts as well as mine would have been different and our interactions with each other might have changed, however I didn't have the simple knowledge that "it is okay to talk about stuttering." That thought was never seen as an option. Again, a lack of education there as well....... Great questions and thank you so much for asking. Please feel free to share more! Have a great day! Scott
