This was a great personal story. It is truly important to understand not only the "symptoms" of those with speech disorders but the emotional toll that those disorders take on the person and their family. As a future SLP I know that I will be faced with many questions and concerns from worried parents. From what I know it is quite common for parents to believe they have something to do with their child's speech disorder. I believe your story would be inspirational for any parent of a child who stutters, actually for anyone who reads it! Accounts like yours not only give professionals insight into the emotional issues of stuttering, they help people who stutter and their families know that they are not alone. Thank you for sharing this story, I know I will be sharing it in the future.
