Charley, thanks so much for writing. You wrote, “If fluency is 'the absence of noticeable stuttering', then the truly covert ones are already 'fluent', and should therefore derive no benefit from therapy - which is absurd!” You have made a really important point. As a former covert stutterer, I remember those days when I began stuttering openly and began saying what I wanted to say. By letting my stuttering out in the open, I learned to explore my stuttering, to face my stuttering, to stop being so very afraid of my stuttering and to change my stuttering.
