This challenged me to think about how I talk about improving communication during my sessions with pws. Early in my career and in my own speech therapy as a pws, I was always striving for fluency. What does this mean? It meant to me to NEVER stutter. An impossible task. It caused negative reactions and feelings of shame. Over the years as a SLP I have learned to stress to my clients the importance of improving communication. We talk about improving fluency often but it is interesting to think how to say it a clearer way. Tks for sharing.
