Lori, thanks so much for writing. You wrote, “I was always striving for fluency. What does this mean? It meant to me to NEVER stutter.” I am so glad you shard this point. I have observed this in my own work – that when some people who stutter explore their expressed goal to be fluent, what they are really saying is that they never want to stutter or no longer want to be a person who stutters. Of course, those feelings are fine to have and to express, I just want to help clients explore their stuttering as clearly and precisely as possible.
