Ben, thanks for writing. You wrote, “While I agree that a clear understanding of these terms is important, and that over using them can lead to miscommunication, I think it would be very time intensive for instruction…Is this talking about fluency an ongoing process or is it something that takes part of a session and is then done.” Being specific and clear in how we communicate and how we guide our clients in exploring their stuttering is something that I feel should far extend a single session or part of a single session. In my opinion, being specific in the language we use is something that should be done as much as possible. Being specific in how we talk about stuttering should, ideally, be a way of maximizing time and effort.
