Clarisse, thanks for writing. I should correct you, I am Mr. Reitzes, not Dr. Reitzes. You wrote, “I just felt that your article confirms what I have been trying to share with my parents and teachers i.e. fluency is our goal.” Well, I would ask, “What do you mean by fluency?” The point of my article was to use specific language in our work. Most would agree that the goal and hope of preschool speech therapy is full recovery from stuttering. Considering that a majority of preschoolers do seem to recover with or without treatment, this goal seems reasonable. You ask if I think that parents and teachers should completely “‘erase’ the term ‘stuttering’ from their ‘dictionaries.’” My question back to you is “Why?”
