Patricia, you brought up some very important issues. I treat many bilingual children and adults who stutter. I have not found that anyone stutters in only one language. However, there can be a difference in the degree of stuttering. In some cases, the stuttering my be covert in one language and overt in the other. That may be why some people report that stuttering only in one language. I define stuttering by the processes used to produce speech, not by counting disfluencies. According to the processing criteria, I don't see that stuttering is language bound. Thanks for a great article.
