Thanks for your replies Pat. I hope my comments manage to sneak through on the 22nd, time difference allowing!! I know your absolutely right about being in a position to do some research! I'm just embarking on an MSc programme so you never know, maybe in the next couple of years! Also your comments about problem solving are exactly right. I had some brienf email discussions with colleagues at the Bankstown Stuttering Unit some time ago (i'm faraid I don't ahve these available at the minute so I can't say the name of the therapists. They were saying the same. Whatever the programme if we can convey the underlying theoretical backgroupnd for the intervention, especially if we can be sure that it's underpinnings lie in a concept sich as behaviourism that we know to be a universal human experience then we should be able to 'sell it'. On the other hand where there are strong influence outside of therapy which mean that this sared understanding is difficult to achieve (I'm thinking here for example about families who have atteded faith healers, more than one of which I know of has reccomended chaning a child's name to one which God will find more pleasing). This reinforces how important it is in our interactions for us to build credibility with our clients through how we condict our interactions. Thnaks again for giving us a forum to raise some of these issues. I've really enjoyed the conference :)
