This article was very beneficial to read as I am currently taking a fluency class. It has made me realize how valuable it is to count disfluencies compared to counting the moments of stuttering. It allows the clinician, client, and the client’s parents to get a better understanding of the clients stuttering and a form of documentation to measure if the client’s stuttering has changed over time. Counting disfluencies is also helpful in conducting the appropriate therapy treatments as stated in the research article by Yairi (1995). I was curious as to how much more time it takes to count disfluencies rather than only counting the moments of stuttering.
