Thank you for your nice comments. I wonder how many children this age actually come to therapy with a high level of motivation. Given the choice between, lets say, hockey and speech therapy, how many would choose speech therapy? I think that for many kids this is one of the first problems to be solved in order for treatment to progress. Although Tom agreed to be in therapy, I do believe that his active participation, ability to be part of the 'decision making' and the fact that therapy had a start and finish within a reasonable time period, where goals that he had set were met, accounted for some of his motivation to continue. I think that some of these factors have to be considered when doing a treatment plan for a school age child and I agree with you that these are the kind of clinical questions that need empirical data.
