Hi Kim. I am pleased you are having a good response to the LP. I start the LP with older children using the same manualized format that I would use for the preschool age children. I use the severity ratings to judge progress and identify and work out problems with parents. If, after, say 10-12 sessions, the child is plateaued or progress seems to be slowed and I think that the child could benefit from an addition, I would introduced a 'fluency shaping' strategy. Generally I would introduce a speech proglongation, modeled rather than taught and in as natural a fashion as the child needs to be fluent. This has given me the best outcomes to date. I would continue to provide verbal comments about the use of the prolongation with the same ratio as in the LP manual. It has been my experience that keeping it simple works well for the older kids. Thanks for your question.
