You are certainly correct that families have different learning styles and we try to adjust the training of the parent to the way in which each parent learns best. For example, some parents like to watch the clinician and then demonstrate while others might like to participate in a turn during a game to try out the verbal feedback without being the only one providing feedback to the child. My experience has shown me that involving the parent at the very first clinical session sets the tone for the treatment. I would demonstrate one step for the parent and then ask the parent to give it a try. I can then see what kind of support the parent needs. For example, if the parent finds it difficult to provide enough verbal feedback, I might sit behind the child and signal the parent when to comment. There are many other ways to provide support and individualize treatment, but not enough room on this page to list them all. Thanks for your question.
