>> "Perhaps we can continue to ‘talk’ in another venue" ....... ABSOLUTELY! So which venue? I challenge you to a public debate at the Oxford Dysfluency conference this summer.... In the mean time, >> "In the RCT of the LP, the odds of attaining clinically minimal levels of stuttering 9 months after randomization were more than 7 times greater for the treated group of preschool children." ....We all know that any therapy leads to fluency in the short term, even for adults. How can you exclude that those who would have recovered only recovered faster? And thirdly, kids get used to the setting and know that they are expected to behave differently. People keep their belly in when a picture is taking!.... >>>"In the 2008 Jones et al follow up of the RCT 20/29 children who received the LP and 8/25 controls were followed up, a mean 5 years post randomization. The majority was able to maintain near zero frequency of stuttering."... Actually not more that the natural recovery rate maintained fluency. So you cannot say anything about the treatment. You are saying to parents that you can eliminate stuttering. That is not the case. Yes, most are eliminated but natural recovery does this anyway. >> "This study as well as others indicates that the majority of preschool children are able to complete the Lidcombe Program successfully and remain below 1%SS." Again, you never mention natural recovery rate. I could as well say most successfully completed the Natural recovery program. In my opinion, your statements on the website is misleading. You need to tell people that you are shaping the kids behaviours, that many feel recovery anyway and that you help minimize maladaptation for those who dont. But you have no proof at all that Lidcombe eliminates stuttering. In fact, even if your "evidence" is correct, it does NOT actually imply it's the Lidcombe method. It could be ANY therapy with a good therapist (as was found in comparing psychotherapies). You might be interested in Marie-Christen's trial where they have 130 kids and place them into treatment arms: Lidcombe and D&C. I predict no difference in outcome.
