Rebecca, I do use similar methods with younger children, but the approach will differ depending on their awareness of the disorder and level of cognitive skill. With very young children, I model the acknowledgments for them, such as "You really figured out how to take your time" (or 'say that word' for a child with an articulation disorder). Eventually, I begin to hear the child tell me, "I took my time", or see them smile when they have accomplished a step. It is really important to facilitate recognition of "I did it" moments with the parents of young children, as they will be doing much of the facilitation of fluency/speech skills/language skills/etc. Thanks for your comments. Best regards, Lynne
