[[I never thought about how our narrow definitions and perceptions of ourselves can prevent us from embracing who we really are. Thank you for your insight!]] Dear Samantha, Yes, we need to recognize that our concepts and our language can create limiting structures for us. While I don't bellieve that they can prevent us from being who we are, they can make the discovery and acceptance process quite challenging. But, for most of us, that is the how it is. Knowing that, if we are serious about being who we are, we learn to challenge all the beliefs we discover we hold about who we are and how we fit into the world. /// In our work, we have the opportunity to help others do the same. It is quite a special opportunity we have as speech-language pathologists. /// Best wishes to you, Samantha, in your life's journey, which includes your work. Ellen-Marie Silverman
