Dear Manimaran and Jai Prakash Sunda, Thank you both so much for sharing your stories. It was very interesting to see someone else’s point of view about seeking treatment for stuttering outside a therapeutic setting. When we think of treatment it is so easy to begin with techniques we have learned or heard of. We don’t always take into perspective what the individual feels or thinks and thus are not facilitating change in the client’s speech. I believe by starting self help groups for people who stutter we can decrease the stigmas we have formed and more people will accept how they speak. They no longer have to live in fear or feel shame when they speak.
