Hello, thank you for writing me. As I'm visiting Slovenian schools, colleges and public libraries and I'm talking about stuttering and problems of PWS I can see that people in general don't know what stuttering is. Many of them think that we have a hearing impairment, some of them think that stuttering is related to a mental health problems or they think we talk with a stutter because we are drunk. I will never forget when a train ticket collector once asked me if I'm drunk because I stuttered that much. I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question. I can only talk through my experiences. I find my stuttering very unusual because during the conversation it gets usually worse. So when I first start talking with someone I stutter less but after awhile it gets worse. And in moments like this I can see how people change their attitude. For example, I was calling to a hospital where they were looking for a social worker. First I asked if this workplace is still available. Woman on the other line said: »Yes«. Than I introduced myself. When she heard that I stutter, she said: »Oh, I've just remembered, that job is already taken. But, have a nice day.« If you would like to stay in touch with me, feel free to write me: beata.akerman@gmail.com OR beata.akerman@fsd-uni-lj.si With best wishes, Beata Akerman
