Beata- I thoroughly enjoyed reading your paper! I am currently a speech language pathology graduate student and I have a four year old client who just began stuttering this year, just like you. It saddens me that you were treated poorly as a child because of your stutter. While many people choose to dwell on the past, I am extremely impressed with your ability to grow from your experiences and view your stuttering as a positive experience that shapes who you are today. Stuttering is a part of you, and always will be and that should not be viewed as a negative thing! We should learn to appreciate our differences in each other because if we were all the same, the world would be an extremely boring place. In your paper, you stated, “There is nothing wrong with being a person who stutters, but in my opinion it is very wrong if one tries to deny it.” I couldn’t agree with this statement more! In class, I have learned over and over again the first and most important step in therapy is accepting that you have a stutter and being okay with it. Continue to advocate for people who stutter and have a positive view of your stutter. You are doing amazing things! –Haley
