Thanks for sharing your amazing story, Ms. Akerman! I thought your comparison between PWS and people who are blind or in a wheelchair was very interesting! When you see someone in a wheelchair you automatically know that they have challenges to overcome everyday and try to understand how they are feeling. With a person who stutters, however, you do not know that they stutter until they talk to you. Society remains uneducated about stuttering and people do not know that interacting with a PWS is just like interacting with a person who does not stutter. It may be intimidating to some people who are not aware that a person stutters until they begin talking, as well. Despite the stigma surrounding stuttering in Slovenia, it is very admirable that you still chose to be an advocate for people who stutter! I also wanted to thank you for writing such an inspiring book. I think it is an amazing tool for teaching kids acceptance of their stuttering and would love to use it in my future therapy sessions after graduation.
