I do feel it would have taken me longer to get to where I am now had my SLP not have spent the extra time with me. I spoke with her recently and she was definitely my inspiration. I developed such an appreciation for the field because of how dedicated she was to helping me. FOr that reason, I try to make sure I really get to know my students and always be enthusiastic about their progress--even if it is small progress. My stuttering is genetic. My uncle stuttered, I stutter and my little brother. I usually stutter most when I am nervous, very tired or uncertain about what I am talking about. I have had 3 babies in the past 5 years--I stutter severly when I am sleep deprived!
