Thank you for sharing this story of triumph. I am a graduate student in a speech-language pathology program and recently completed an assignment where I needed to stutter in two public places and once over the phone. While reading your story, I could not imagine what I would have done if that was me and how I would have felt. I also viewed the show, “MTV’s True Life: I Stutter,” and was horrified when a guy at a pizza place hung up the phone on the person who stuttered. I feel frustrated that so many people in our society are not educated on stuttering or are just plain rude while interacting with people who stutter. Although I feel this way, I recognize that I once was a person who was ignorant myself because I knew nothing about stuttering and definitely had no idea of how to interact with people who stuttered. Public education on this issue is essential in our society. The outcome of your story displays how strong of a person you truly are. Thank you for standing up and forcing a change. Thank you for making a difference.
