Hi Sarah, Sadly, there is a HUGE lack of understanding about what stuttering involves. But that is NEVER an excuse for appalling manners. National stuttering organisations make sterling efforts to create greater public awareness but we cannot expect them to do it alone. They have limited resources at their disposal. We who stutter must also play our part. You have done just that by complaining about the way in which you were treated on the telephone. Kudos to you! Your courageous actions will, hopefully, ensure that future customers do not experience a similar outcome. Thank you for sharing your story – I’m sure it will encourage others to deal more assertively with discrimination in their own lives. It’s ironic that a prospective purchase of flowers has caused you to cultivate greater self-confidence and blossom as a human being. May the seeds that you have sown continue to flourish and grow. Kindest regards Alan
