Wow! When I first read your story I was shocked at the way you were treated. The ignorance of some people can really be appalling. A lot of people don't realize how limiting stuttering can be, especially when making phone calls. I'm sure there are many other stories similar to yours out there. We as a society need to become more educated on stuttering, and learn how to appropriately react. I liked that you stood up for yourself with the letter. A lot of people wouldn't be brave enough to do that. I also liked that in your letter you told the florist how you wanted to be treated, and suggestions for future encounters with people who stutter. I'm glad the manager realized his employers mistake, and is taking action to fix it. As an undergrad SLP student, I would want to share this story with my future clients so that they can learn to stand up for themselves just as you did.
