It is an interesting question. I have often wondered if the Hollins program was a factor in the the initiation of the voice problem along with spasticity in breathing movements. The total focus on breathing and soft voice onset felt totally foreign to me and, truthfully, I hated it. I never felt that the program worked with the whole of me and I was totally uncomfortable with it,it seemed like I was being made into an automaton rather than working with all the parts that make up me and my communication. I have often wondered about those people who are said to have been very successful with the program like, I believe, John Stossel and Annie Glenn. I ask what is different about my stuttering vs their stuttering? Could the severity of my stuttering be different from theirs? What other factors might be involved? Did I panic when I ran into trouble after the program was over and then try to overcompensate? This I believe my have been a big problem for me. It is like I always have a need to overfill a coffee cup or a glass of liquid, and then, of course, if I walk with it I will spill a little. Does this analogy make sense? What a great question you have posed!
