Hi Irene. I wasn’t sure if I should post after someone else’s question but what I have to ask is related to the previous post so I decided to just post here. I hope that is okay. I am currently a graduate student studying to become an SLP. I found your story both interesting and inspiring! I think some of the techniques and experiences you talk about will be helpful in my preparation for future therapy sessions with clients whether they stutter, have SD, or show signs and symptoms of both. In general, despite the occasional loss of voice, it seems as if you considered botox injections to be helpful in the management of your SD. After completing a research paper on SD for my voice class two semesters ago, it is to my understanding that SD can be classified into two subgroups: adductor SD and abductor SD, with maybe even the possibility of a mixed type. Would you consider your type of SD to be abductor type due to the breathy quality? Do you think that the botox injections were particularly helpful to you because you have this certain type of SD? Do you think the ENT would have recommended this treatment to someone with adductor type SD? Also, just to clarify, you said that you tend to go back for another botox injection as your dysfluencies increase? Approximately how long do you have before you have to go back for subsequent injections? I know I have a lot of questions so thank you for taking the time to look at them!
