Thanks for reading my article and responding. Yes, being a PWS and having had therapy myself was what motivated my interest in becoming a SLP. I had previously had a BS in biology but did not find the work I was doing in that area satisfying so I went back to school at the ripe old age of 30 and became an SLP. I wanted more people contact. Being able to communicate is certainly a gift and it connects us, personal interaction is truly important. We communicate in many ways but being able to communicate verbally is truly a gift. I definitly believe that my empathy and sensitivity toward my clients helped greatly to my being of help to them, but I do not believe one has to have had a communication problem to be empathetic and sensitive, but it might be a little harder to reach inside yourself and find it. We all tend to react positively to those who show true understanding of what we are going through. Best of luck in the future.
